Grimley Financial Corporation (GFC) is third-party collection agency specializing in healthcare, commercial, and education loans. GFC has received complaints alleging problems with their billing and collection services. If you have been contacted by GFC, understand your rights before responding.
According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), GFC was founded and incorporated in Haddonfield, NJ in 1986. The BBB opened its file on GFC in 2002. GFC is listed as a collection agency, a credit-debt consolidation service, a financial services company, and a credit and debt counseling service. GFC uses the alternate business name, Patient Financial Services. Buzzfile estimates GFC’s annual revenue at $5.2 million.
GFC’s website states a mission of providing “value added third party collection services incorporating the utmost in professionalism, customer service and collection diligence,” with state-of-the-art technology that comes second only to “people skills and customer service [that retains] old-fashioned hospitality.” GFC cites its client retention rate as its primary indicator of success.
GFC’s collection agents collect delinquent consumer debt for providers of credit in healthcare and education. In addition, GFC collects commercial debt for corporate and business clients. GFC’s healthcare division offers pre-collect services with agents who operate as an extension of the business offices of healthcare providers, servicing accounts that are typically 30 to 45 days old. Their healthcare bad debt division services placements that are 120 days or more past due. Collectors are educated in insurance company practices. GFC’s education division specializes in tuition collection and assisting private schools with their collection accounts. Finally, GFC also collects delinquent commercial accounts for businesses that range from small entrepreneurships to Fortune 1000 companies.
The BBB has closed only 2 complaints against GFC in the past three years, one of them in the past twelve months. Both complaints allege problems with billing and collection services. There are also 2 negative reviews, both alleging rude and aggressive conduct by collection agents. GFC is not BBB accredited; the BBB has given them a rating of A+. Justia lists at least 2 cases of civil litigation naming GFC as either plaintiff or defendant.
Absolutely. Here are some Sample Cases against Grimley Financial Corporation – GFC
In May 2017, a patient was contacted by one of GFC’s pre-collect representatives about billing for a surgical procedure. Because the complainant was contacted by GFC and not the provider, the complainant found GFC’s conduct “shady.” GFC reviewed the collection notes for the calls in question and indicated that there did not appear to have been any problems on either side during the call. Also in May 2017, a complainant indicated a GFC representative had been rude and unprofessional during a telephone conversation. After requesting a transfer to a supervisor, the complainant received the information she was requesting, but still insisted both representatives were rude. Finally, in April 2015, a complainant indicated that she had been contacted by GFC regarding a debt. GFC had indicated they had sent written notification a few days earlier that should arrive soon. Two weeks later, the complainant called GFC to let them know she still had not received verification. According to the complainant, the GFC representative said they had already sent it, that it was “too bad” if she had not received it, and then refused the complainant’s request to send a duplicate copy. GFC’s review of the complaint confirmed that the agent had refused to send verification, and GFC management provided contact for follow-up and promised to send written notification.

Understanding your Debt Collection Rights
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the CFPB enforce laws prohibiting unethical business practices such as the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FDCPA prohibits activities such as failing to provide verification of a debt, or using false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA). The complaint above illustrates why it is important for consumers to understand their rights before attempting to take action against collection agencies who may have violated these laws.
Private individuals may seek monetary damages in court for alleged violations. For instance, the FDCPA allows consumers to recover damages of up to $1,000, plus attorney fees and court costs. If you believe your rights have been violated by a collection agency, seek legal assistance to ensure you find relief.
