Is TrueAccord Corp legit?

They’re legit. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), TrueAccord is a legitimate debt collection agency incorporated in May 2013 in Delaware and opened in San Francisco the same date. The BBB opened its file the same date as its incorporation and founding. TrueAccord is listed as a collection agency with an estimated staff size of 10 people.

According to its website, TrueAccord was established in an effort to correct what its founders perceived as “something inherently wrong with the way debt collection was being done.” TrueAccord represents an attempt to fundamentally change the debt collection industry…to turn collections into a recovery and reconciliation process.”

TrueAccord cites its nearly fully-automated management system as its selling point. “TrueAccord’s patent pending decision engine uses machine learning to create personalized, digital first, consumer experiences that are uniquely tailored for each consumer.” This automated system uses a “clustering engine” to predict consumer reactions “to communication frequency, timing, channel, and content… then selects from hundreds of internally generated and legally pre-approved messages that drive consumer engagement via omni-channel delivery…and tracks real time events from the consumer—email opens, link clicks, browsing patterns on TrueAccord assets, and interactions with our call center—to decide what its next step should be.”

Who does TrueAccord Corp collect for?

TrueAccord’s automated system sends collection letters to consumers with accounts with credit card, internet-based subscription service, consumer loan, e-commerce, and telecommunication account delinquencies.

TrueAccord cites a policy of “code-driven compliance,” in which “control, auditability, and real-time updates for changing rules and regulations” are managed exclusively by computer “code, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met, and allowing for the flexibility to quickly adjust to new rules and case law.” TrueAccord’s “legal department and external counsel follow developments in regulations and case law to develop policies and procedures according to their constant changes.” Their Resources page offers some white papers promoting the concept of automated collection systems, but there are no links or references to consumer protection resources, laws, or enforcement agencies.

Can Trueaccord Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

It is illegal for a debt collector to make empty threats to sue you or garnish your wages. It is also unlikely TrueAccord would sue you for a debt you may not owe or they cannot validate. However, debt collection agencies are known to have summoned debtors to court and garnish wages after a default judgement. Contacting an attorney BEFORE this could possibly happen would be a smart move. We’ve helped thousands of consumers fight back against unscrupulous debt collection harassers. Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against TrueAccord Corp?

Absolutely.  You can sue a debt collector. Here is a Sample Case Complaint:

The details of all but one of the complaints on the BBB site are not available for public reference. The one complaint that is visible is from June 2017. This complaint alleges that TrueAccord sent a collection letter that used a false name. The complainant did not take issue with the debt itself, but was concerned about “receiving an email that states a person’s name, that according to the company when you call…does not exist.” The complainant stated that she believes such tactics constitute “false representation… and that if a person’s name is used for you to contact at the company, that person should be a legal and existing person.”

In response, TrueAccord apologized that the complainant was “unhappy with their use of pseudonyms for their automated agent system.” They insisted that they “strive to be transparent in their use of automated agents and have a list of all agent names on their website.” They insist that their use of pseudonyms complies with all state and federal laws. TrueAccord informed the complainant that they “submitted the complaint for further review to their legal department to determine if further action is needed to clarify in their messages that they use automated agents.”
In her rebuttal to their response, the complaint rejected the attempted resolution because “at this time, there are a huge…amount of scam emails, text messages, calling cell numbers that she receives on a daily basis from scammers. Not using a true, physically alive and legitimate person makes her not trust this company in any way or form… and not want to relay any type of information with them… especially personal information such as: address, social security number and so on.” Although the complainant stated that she is “not out against the company… and does not deny she owes this debt,” she does not believe automated email messages using fake names is a legitimate way to represent a business, especially in the current climate.”

TrueAccord Corp Calling You?

Federal laws protect you. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

Can I sue TrueAccord for harassment?

Yes. If you want to enforce your rights, or recover money for violations — you need to sue. Federal laws provide individuals like you with a means to seek monetary damages in court. For example, the FDCPA allows consumers who have been violated to recover damages of up to $1,000, plus attorney fees and court costs.

I have received 23 emails from TrueAccord stating I owe $4,858.55 on a debt that is over 20 years old or more. The emails state:

The law limits how long you can be sued on a debt. Because of the age of your debt, LVNV Funding LLC cannot sue you for it, and LVNV Funding LLC cannot report it to any credit reporting agency.

This was originally an account with Citibank (South Dakota), N.A. (SEARS CHARGE PLUS), account number ending in 3818.

LVNV Funding LLC account number ending in: 0361

What can I do to stop this. I am checking my credit report daily for fear that they are going to report something that is clearly a non-collectable debt.

I’m just getting started with TrueAccord – I received an email on December 19 stating a debt was owed to Verizon (I’m starting to see a trend in the comments). the TrueAccord rep who sent the message addressed a display name of someone who I have no clue is, but used MY email address. Sound like they’re not necessarily doing legitimate business. I am sending a letter disputing the claim; if I do not get any response, I may be back.

  • Anjali G

I received 2 emails from them stating that I owe a Verizon bill of 1000 yet I’ve never had Verizon. I reached out to Verizon and they said I was never a customer. How on earth did true accord even find my email address. They’re very creepy!!

  • Ceexcee

True accord emails, texts, and call me daily . I do don’t owe them a penny. This has been going on for months. It is to the point of harassment. There is no way their practice can be legal to harass a person months on end for something they do not owe.

  • Tsaunders

I recieved emails from true accord starting 12/2020 stating i owe a verizon debt back in 2015. The account is not on my credit report. After reading all these reviews, i decided to just block all true accord emails and calls from them. Not to mention i am getting my number changed.

  • John

Just received 2 emails from Trueaccord claiming I owe from a debt 15yrs old.
The debt was settled back then and they know it. Also well past the statute of limitations.
If they persist I’m thinking of filing a fraud suit against them.
Fraud can result in triple damages which would result in a windfall for the plaintiff.

  • James

They have sent me 46 emails as harassment for a debt I do not owe that they have acknowledged was created out of identity theft. They have called me daily, sometimes minutes apart, from spoofed numbers to try and get me to pick up. I want to sue the living sh out of these bastards. This has been going on for over 2 years!

  • Jenn K

TrueAccord took it upon themselves to email me at an address I never use. It was a freak occurrence that I even saw it. Their emails have been reported as spam. I’ve had the same telephone number for 20 years. If they’ve tried to call me I don’t know about it since they’ve never left a message. They openly admit they are trying to collect a debt that is too old to report to credit agencies or to sue me. They are trying to collect on a debt that is well beyond my state’s 10 year debt collection law. To me, their attempts are thinly disguised (empty!) threats. I refuse to work with an online only agency with a fake name of the “person” contacting me. I believe they already have violated federal collection laws by not providing a mailed copy of their collection within 5 days to my physical address. I have used their option to dispute their claim. The name they asked me to verify is not my full legal last name and I have don’t believe I ever opened an account with the original creditor. It will be interesting to see their response. Obviously they will never get any of the information they want

  • Sara

They sent me an email about a debt they have no right to collect on because its way beyond the statute of limitations.

  • Mario C

I just recieved an email stating I owe Santander almost $4000 for my car in late payments. I verified with Santander there was no such debt owed.

  • Nina

Trueaccord is stating I have a debt of 65 that I purchased something from QVC. I have called QVC and have no outstanding debts to them or did they send anything over to a credit collector agency. Is this legal?

  • Jimbo

TrueAccord graced me with an email today. It’s an old account that I actually settled about 10 years ago through LVNV Funding LLC. Their email states the statue of limitations.
I’ve been through these emails before. Tell them to immediately stop contact unless they are serving you with a law suit. Don’t say anything else. This worked for me in the past. I just sent TA my email so they are on notice to leave me alone or file law suit. If not, I’ll file harassment suit against them for trying to collect a debt that is settle and for harassing on a non-collectable, non-owed debt.
Play hardball immediately if you get these emails/letters from collection agencies as they are hoping some people will pay out of fear of being sued.

I received my first email from True Accord just a few minutes ago. They are requesting I make easy payments on an old Alltel account I have not had since 2008 or 2009. It never showed up on my credit report, I was a single mom and had to pick and choose what I paid outside of rent, utilities, childcare and groceries and change in my income as a young single mom I was not able to keep my account with Alltel current for the wifi Hotspot I had gotten through them. I don’t even recall if I received a letter with amount owed to keep from having my account turned over to collections. I never saw anything on my credit report in the years after Ihad to pick and choose priority over not necessary. I wanted to do my research on this collection company I have never heard of and my state’s statue of limitations. It seems that next I need to request validity for the old debt just so I can tell them it is past the statue of limitations to collect in Arkansas. I’ve tried to keep and eye on my credit report over the years in attempts to pay old debts and settle them as I can, I made the agreement to pay and it’s only right I uphold my part of the agreement even if I couldn’t pay whatever the debt was at the time I still try to do right, a lot of unexpected circumstances caused my perfect credit score I had at 19 and 20 to go into the gutter. It is what it is, but I’m not going to pay a bill that never appeared on my credit report and is definitely past my state’s statue of limitations to collect on an old debt.
Wish me luck. I will post updates or whatever I can while I get ready to go toe to toe with this company that by chance found my email address, I didn’t have Gmail at the time I had Alltel, they have my current address and wrong phone number, which is funny since our AT&T account is in my name, there are 3 phone numbers with my name on them and it’s current. I’m not above blocking their calls when they figure out how to get my number and then going to the number and see how many calls they have made to me making for seemingly hostile collections tactics.
I may be wrong, but if they do send a letter verification of owing this debt and I inform them it is past my state’s statue of limitations, then in my thinking they will be required by laws to leave me alone and check “loss” next to however much they bought this outdated list with my information on it. Then if they do not leave me alone I will have grounds for taking legal action.

  • Tanya

The original creditor accepted payment on March 1st which dropped the balance by over half. TrueAccord is still sending me emails for the original amount even though I have proof that the original creditor has accepted payment. They don’t call they just email with a different persons name everyday. They are beyond ridiculous.

  • April F

Same as above I received… We are TrueAccord, a third party debt collection agency that is working on behalf of ACCOUNTS INTERCHANGE GROUP LLC to collect on a balance of $49.94. I have never heard of this and I have no collections.

  • Christopher Z

Recieved a robocall from trueaccord, stating make payment, or if you have American Express make a payment , etc. I returned call same menu hit option for other accounts, got a live person and all they wanted was me verify my name , and that I had to I said no I dont , who are you and why are you calling , all they wanted was every bit of my information and I’m not handing information out too many scams. Initial call from them was a robocall, date of call 12/12/2019 at 12:24pm

  • Stu

True Accord sending me twice a week emails (Usually in my box on Sunday and Thursday mornings) for about the past 6 months, about a debt that is OVER 10 years old and NOT on
my credit report, even saying I cannot be sued for it…I know they bought the debt for pennies on the dollar from LVNV funding and make their money trying to collect the about 3333.00) amount. The wording though makes me believe they can take me to court…

  • E S

I received an email from TrueAccord Support, I don’t know who this company is. I asked them to send me a written notice in mail to validates debt. They only send emails. I made copy of emails. I am not going to send money to some company who send email. I have lost money before. I am on Social Security

  • Terrell S

I have gotten 11 e-mails from this company since January. They are trying to collect on a debt that is no longer on my credit report. In their letter they say “The law limits how long you can be sued on a debt. Because of the age of your debt, LVNV Funding LLC cannot sue you for it, and LVNV Funding LLC will not report it to any credit reporting agency.” These e-mails need to stop but I do not want to contact them and let them think they can somehow manipulate me into paying something I no longer owe.

  • Minyhone

I too received an E-mail requesting that I call a specific person. This is the first of me hearing about this company and the amount that they stated is due. Seems a little unprofessional.

  • Benjamin R

I just received an email from TrueAccord. Stating they were acting on behalf of Accounts Interchange Group LLC. They requested I send them an amount of $44.98. I have never heard of this company before.

  • Tammy K

I have received several calls from Trueaccord regarding an account with spotloan that I don’t even remember. I have started the dispute process but I need your assistance.
