Were You Harmed By False Information or Errors In Your CoreLogic Report?

You may have a claim if a background check error cost you a job

Whether you get hired or promoted often depends on the information learned from an employment background check. A background check can come in many shapes and sizes. It may be as simple as verifying your social security number. Or it may include a detailed report of your credit and criminal history, or even information gathered from interviews of your friends and neighbors about your character and reputation.

Whatever the scope of the background check, the FCRA sets strict standards for how employers and background check companies get consent for and conduct background checks, and what they can do with the information they find.

If a background check company like CoreLogic fails to meet those standards, the FCRA gives you rights.

What are my Background Check Disclosure and Consent Rights?

A Summary of Your Rights Under the FCRA

You have a right to know if an employer will use information from a background check against you and an employer cannot obtain background check information without your express written consent.

A background check company cannot hand over your information to an employer unless the employer certifies that: (1) it has “clearly and conspicuously” disclosed to you in a separate document that it may obtain a background check; (2) you have authorized it to get the background check; and (3) it will provide you with advance notice of any adverse action based in any part on the background check report, a copy of the report, and a summary of your rights under the FCRA.

You Received A Pre-Adverse Action Notice From A Potential Employer. What Are Your Legal Rights?

By law, anyone who uses the information in a background check report to screen job applicants must let any applicant know when they didn’t get the job based on the information in the report.

This means you have a right to see what is in the background check. Depending on your specific circumstances, you may also be able to sue the company that requested the background check and rejected your application, or the company that issued the background check report

Your Right to a Mistake Free and Legally-Compliant Report From CoreLogic Inc

A background check company must take reasonable steps to ensure its report is as accurate as possible.

The FCRA also puts limits on the negative information a background check report can include. A report cannot list civil suits, judgments, arrest records, paid tax liens, accounts in collection or most other negative information (except criminal convictions) after 7 years, or bankruptcies after 10 years. It also cannot list expunged convictions

Your Right to Dispute Dispositions and Discrepancies on an Unfair Report from CoreLogic

If you don’t get a job because of information in a background check report, you are entitled to a copy of the report. You also have the right to dispute the report if it has errors or includes information it shouldn’t.

If you dispute a report, the background check company must investigate and correct any errors within 30 days.

Your Right to Sue CoreLogic if your report includes mistakes, inaccurate or illegal info

If you lost out on a job or promotion because a background check report included inaccurate or illegal information, you may be able to sue in federal court. If you sue and win, you may be entitled to your actual damages or statutory damages up to $1,000, plus punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and costs.

Actual Complaints Against CoreLogic

Hardworking people just like you who lost job opportunities due to an inaccurate or unfair CoreLogic employment background check report have already sued the company for FCRA violations. Justia lists at least 5 federal civil lawsuits against CoreLogic that allege violations of the FCRA due to improper employment screening reports.

For example, on March 22, 2016, a consumer sued CoreLogic in the federal district court for the Northern District of Georgia for violating the FCRA in connection with an employment background check and that she lost employment opportunities and suffered emotional distress, reputational harm and other damages. The complainant alleged that she went to “tax school” with Barnes & Linder, Inc. (BL) and BL then hired her as a tax specialist. According to the complainant, BL then obtained an employment background check from GoodHire that contained information reported to GoodHire by CoreLogic, but GoodHire and CoreLogic failed to use reasonable procedures to ensure the maximum accuracy possible of the report as the FCRA requires. The complainant alleged that the report falsely listed a felony conviction when, in fact, she had never been convicted of a felony. Based on the inaccurate information in the report, BL demoted and then effectively terminated the complainant.

This is just one of at least 5 federal civil FCRA lawsuits filed against CoreLogic. Most of those lawsuits allege that CoreLogic did not take reasonable steps to verify criminal background information and, as a result, falsely branded the complainants as convicted felons and caused them to lose job opportunities. Several complainants filed their lawsuits as class action complaints, on behalf of themselves and similarly situated people.

Corelogic has listed me as a 4 time felon. They said i was conviced in Texas. Never been to Texas. I call the prison i was accused of being at and they confirmed that it wasn’t me. It was a guy with same name and birthday. I called corelogic and they said they dont go by SS#s which i dont understand why because that would be the most accurate way to get information. Names are not unique to one person but a social is. They have already cost me 10,000 dollars bevause they told the VA disability i was a felon and the VA took my pay away for a year because of them saying i spend almost a year in prison and the VA said i owed back pay. With out thst income i had to take out small loans just to pay bills and am in a lot of debt now. I also just lost out on a apartment I was just about to move into because corelogic has yet to remove it off even after sending letters from the judge at that prison stating it wasnt me and i have sent a FBI background check that i paid for outta pocket to them. Noe they say they need a photo id to remove it but im afraid to send it to them because they already attached the felony to background checks and dont want them having a id. I figured a letter from the judge in texas stating it wasn’t me would be good enough or even the FBI background check but nope. So now im fighting the VA to get the money they took back on top of paying all these loan off i had to take out just to pay bills and not have my lights shut off

Not sure if the star rating is for yall or corelogic. I put one star if it is for corelogic

I feel my job search and loan requests are being negatively influenced by CoreLogic. Is there a way to get a copy of their report on me?
I’m relieved to see this resource is available. CoreLogic has spent a lot of time and money to stay out of the public eye and to remain relatively unknown. Most people I talk to in my town have no idea who CoreLogic is. Very scary cuz they are everywhere & have collected vital info on millions of people.

Hello, my husband and I spoke to someone about corelogic. He are about to he homeless because corelogic says he is a sex offender when he isnt. When we did a search in Ga, we found the guy he is being accused of being. He has the same first and last and birth year, but not the same middle name and is clearly recently updated his photo and address. Corelogic also costed my husband his job about 7 years ago. He drove a tow truck for a long time and I was about to have a csection with our son. I was in no shape to work. The company he worked for had a nee company doing background and next thing we know, he was fired and told he was a sex offender. We were then also kicked out of our then home that we were renting for the same reason. I was 1 week away from having our son. We also have a special needs daughter who was almost 3 at the time as well. Well shes almost 9 now and my son 6. We have to move and suddenly my husband and I are being denied everywhere because they are saying he is a sex offender. We are about to be homeless because of this company. My husband has a very secure job that actually did a proper background check so hes got a secure job. We really need some help. Our special needs daughter has become very emotion and doesnt understand. Its caused so much stress that I have been throwing up allot, cant eat or sleep. We really need some help. I dont want my children to be homeless on thanksgiving all because of a scamming background checking company.

How do I get a copy of this report? I was about to get a job offer with GEICO last year and we were agreeing to money amounts, and all the sudden someone waved my person out of the room, and just like that, I was walked out? How do I get a background report from then?
